It is put on the same level as \u201cthe <em>fact<\/em> that the earth is round (a sphere) and not flat\u201d with the dunces labeled \u201cflat-earthers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, I take umbrage with the use of the word \u201cfact\u201d to conflate these two instances as examples of what \u201cis\u201d or what is \u201ctrue.\u201d I claim the earth <em>is<\/em> spherical (more or less: a better approximation is an oblate spheroid) or certainly \u201ccurved\u201d rather than \u201cflat.\u201d Whereas the statement that the \u201csun is at the center of the solar system\u201d is not a fact but an arbitrary convenience.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/josmfs.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Meditation-on-Is-in-Math-III-200319.pdf\">Meditation on \u201cIs\u201d in Mathematics III \u2013 Heliocentrism<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Given the aggravating times, I thought I would vent my frustration by ranting on a somewhat nonsensical topic: \u201cThe fact that the earth revolves around the sun, rather than the sun around the earth.\u201d This assertion is often used to separate the supposed dunces from the enlightened.
