href=\"https:\/\/josmfs.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Hard-Geometric-Problem_Evan.pdf\">solution<\/a> to the Hard Geometric Problem from<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Evander Tandiarrang<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Harapan Beliem Wamena (Primary School, Grade 6)<\/p>\n<p>Google maps showed the city of Wamena to be located in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1679 aligncenter\" exact location of SD Harapan Beliem Elementary school.\u00a0 I did find an undated photo of apparently students, teachers, and parents at the school.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1680 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/josmfs.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Hard-Geometry-School-members.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" https:\/\/josmfs.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Hard-Geometry-School-members-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even though I do not understand the Indonesian language, or any of the 300 different languages spoken by the 200 million population of the country (according to Wikipedia), the universal language of mathematics triumphed, and I was able to verify that Evander Tandiarrang had indeed solved the problem, and in a way that did not involve complex variables, the law of cosines, or the law of sines.\u00a0 The path through the proof displayed an exceptional mastery of the complexities of basic plane geometry.\u00a0\u00a0 Indonesian prowess in mathematics is legendary, but to find such capability in a 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade elementary school student is breathtaking, and a bit intimidating.\u00a0 Nice job.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(Update 7\/20\/2020)\u00a0 <\/strong>I received a response from Evander, who provided me with a photo and location for his school in Wamena (I believe it is the red marker\u2014I think the blue marker is for Wamena).\u00a0 He also writes about himself in very good English.\u00a0 See <a the internet, it is extremely gratifying to see an example of how the internet can bring the world together under the rational, universal umbrella of mathematics.\u00a0 It is one of the reasons I am
